Heat Transfer Oil

Greyhound Heat Transfer 32 is a mineral heat transfer oil for closed, forced-circulation thermal oil systems, rated to a maximum bulk temperature of 280°C. In many plants heating is done indirectly by circulating hot oil through a heater and out to jacketed vessels, presses, rollers and dryers, which spreads the heat evenly and keeps flame and product apart. The fluid runs hot for years at a time, so what matters is thermal stability, low acidity and a clean oil with no water or impurities, so that it does not crack into sludge and carbon on the heater tubes. Keep the system sealed or nitrogen-blanketed, do not mix mineral and synthetic fluids, and test the oil periodically. Supplied in 5L, 20L and 210L drums.

Heat Transfer Oil 32

Application: indirect heating in closed, forced-circulation thermal oil systems

Greyhound™ Lubricants Heat Transfer 32 is a high-quality mineral heat transfer oil for indirect heating in closed systems with forced circulation. Its aromatic base gives good heat transfer and thermal stability, with low acidity and no water or mechanical impurities, for clean, reliable operation and long service life. Rated to a maximum bulk temperature of 280°C; for duties above this, talk to us first.

Typical duties: thermal oil heaters and boilers, indirect heating of reactors, tanks and vessels, heated presses, rollers and moulds, and dryers and process heating in chemical, plastics, rubber, timber and food processing plants (non-food-contact).

Operating conditions

  • Maximum bulk temperature 280°C
  • Closed systems only, with forced circulation
  • Hot oil must not contact air: use a sealed or nitrogen-blanketed expansion tank
  • Not suitable for open systems or low-temperature cooling circuits
  • Do not mix with synthetic heat transfer fluids; flush the system when changing fluid type
  • Check oil condition periodically (acid number, viscosity, flash point) and replace when degraded

Typical properties

  • Clear, light-coloured mineral oil
  • Kinematic viscosity at 100°C: about 5.7 cSt
  • Pour point: -30°C (a laboratory flow limit, not an operating temperature)
  • Flash point (closed cup): 243°C; self-ignition temperature: 287°C
  • Acid number: 0.03 mg KOH/g; no water, no mechanical impurities

Manufactured in Europe at ISO-certified facilities.

Benefits

  • Good heat transfer for efficient, even process heating
  • Thermal stability and low acidity keep heater tubes clean
  • Long service life in a properly designed, sealed system
  • Available in 5L, 20L and 210L drums
