Fire Resistant Hydraulic Fluid
Greyhound Fire Resistant Hydraulic Fluid is less hazardous and more fire-resistant hydraulic fluid based on BASF HFC additives and water glycol-based hydraulic fluid with a typical water content of around 41 %. Greyhound Fire Resistant hydraulic fluids have been developed to replace petroleum-based fluids in applications where there is a potential for ignition may occur. A variety of hydraulic fluid formulations are available, so selecting the appropriate fluid for a given purpose should be based on a review of the characteristics of each fluid. While fire-resistant fluids have a lower fire hazard than petroleum oil, all will ignite under extreme conditions. Although fire-retardant fluids are not fireproof and only reduce the potential hazard associated with oil-based fluids.
Most Common Fire Resistant Fluids categories:
- HFA -High Water Contents Fluid (ISO Temperature 5 to 50°C). Chemical characteristics are similar to water.
- HFB – Invert Emulsion (ISO Temperature 5 to 50°C). Due to its water content, it can be used as a fire extinguisher
- HFC – Water Glycol Fluids (ISO Temperature -20 to 50°C). Most commonly used hydraulic fluid
- HFD – Synthetic Water Free Fluids (ISO Temperature -20 to 70°C). The synthetic fluid contains no water or oil and is safe for the aquatic ecosystem).
Application: Hydraulic Systems exposed to fire hazards
Greyhound HYDRAULIC FR-46 HFC is a fire-resistant hydraulic fluid type HFC (aqueous solution of polymers with a water content > 41 %). It contains an aqueous solution a combination of glycols of different chain lengths as well as special additives for wear and corrosion protection.
HYDRAULIC FR-46 HFC is used in all areas where the risk of a fire hazard exists, as in the steel industry in forging shops, heat treatment shops, and casting shops – especially in die casting shops and in underground hard coal mines.
HYDRAULIC FR-46 HFC is designed acc. to the requirements of the 7th Luxemburg Report.
Specifications: VDMA 24317, ISO 12922 HFC
