Oil Guide
Which oil does my bakkie, car, truck, bike, tractor or generator take?
Choose the vehicle or machine and the engine fitted, and we show the grade and specification the manufacturer publishes, the Greyhound product that meets it, what South African workshops actually use, a budget option where one is safe, and the one mistake to avoid. Where we do not yet have a matching product, we say so.

About this guide
The Greyhound Oil Guide is provided by Greyhound Lubricants (Pty) Ltd as a free reference to help you choose an engine oil that meets the specification published by the vehicle manufacturer for your engine. Recommendations are matched on viscosity grade and industry performance level (API, ACEA, JASO). Where a manufacturer requires its own approval (for example Ford WSS, VW or Renault specifications) and Greyhound does not hold that approval, the guide says so rather than suggesting a substitute.
Your responsibility. Vehicle specifications differ by model year, market and engine variant, and manufacturers update them over time. Always confirm the grade, specification and capacity against the owner’s manual or service book for your specific vehicle, or with your dealer, before purchase. Vehicles under manufacturer warranty or on a service plan should follow the dealer’s oil requirement.
No warranty. Information is provided in good faith and is believed correct at the time of publication, but Greyhound Lubricants gives no guarantee that it is complete, current or error free, and accepts no liability for loss or damage arising from reliance on it. Greyhound product names, brand names and OEM specification codes are used for identification only; vehicle brand names belong to their respective owners. This guide does not create any relationship with, or endorsement by, Toyota, Ford, Isuzu, Nissan, Volkswagen, Mitsubishi, GWM, Mahindra or any other manufacturer.
Not sure? Contact us with your VIN or engine code and we will check the correct grade for you.
