Coolants and Brake Fluids
Greyhound Lubricants supplies coolant and brake fluid for passenger vehicles, commercial fleets, agricultural machinery and industrial engines.
Engine coolant does three jobs: it moves heat away from the engine, it raises the boiling point and lowers the freezing point of the system, and its inhibitor package protects aluminium, cast iron, brass and solder against corrosion. Mixing coolant technologies, or topping up with plain water, dilutes that inhibitor package and is a common cause of radiator and water pump failure. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the air over time, which lowers the wet boiling point and can cause a soft pedal or vapour lock under hard braking. That is why most manufacturers call for a fluid change every two years regardless of mileage.
Always use the DOT specification and coolant type stated by the vehicle manufacturer.
