In many cases yes, but it is best to follow your vehicle manufacturer's specification. The 40 indicates a slightly thicker oil at operating temperature; check that the oil still meets the API/ACEA and OEM approvals listed in your manual, or contact our team for advice on your specific vehicle.

HM oils are anti-wear hydraulic oils for systems operating at relatively stable temperatures, while HV oils have a higher viscosity index, meaning they maintain more consistent viscosity across a wider temperature range, making them better suited to outdoor or variable-temperature applications.

Lithium

Lithium grease is the general-purpose workhorse of bearing and chassis lubrication, and makes up the largest part of the Greyhound Lubricants grease range.

Lithium soap thickeners give good mechanical stability, solid water resistance and a useful operating range for most automotive and industrial bearings. NLGI grade 2 is the standard consistency for rolling element bearings and general workshop use, with softer grades chosen for centralised lubrication systems and colder conditions. EP versions carry extreme-pressure additives for shock and high contact loads found in mining, agriculture and heavy plant. Where operating temperatures run consistently higher, a lithium complex grease will hold up better than conventional lithium because of its higher dropping point.

Do not mix lithium grease with incompatible thickeners such as calcium sulphonate or clay-based products, as the blend can soften and run out of the bearing. Packed from 500g to 180kg.
