Greyhound Lubricants supplies transmission oil for manual gearboxes, automatic transmissions, differentials, transfer cases and final drives in passenger, commercial and off-highway vehicles.
The right transmission oil depends on the API service category and the viscosity grade specified by the vehicle or equipment builder. API GL-4 gear oils suit most synchromesh manual gearboxes, while GL-5 grades carry the higher extreme-pressure additive levels needed by hypoid differentials. Automatic transmissions and CVT units need a fluid matched to the specific transmission family rather than a general gear oil, because friction characteristics differ between designs. Using a GL-5 oil where GL-4 is specified can attack yellow metal synchronisers, so always check the handbook.
