Greyhound Industrial Gear Oil 46 210L Drum

Greyhound Industrial Gear Oil 46 is the lightest grade in the Greyhound IGO range, an ISO VG 46 extreme-pressure gear oil for enclosed gear units that run at higher speeds and lower loads than the heavy 220 to 680 grades are built for. It carries the same CLP additive system as the rest of the range, so it protects gear teeth against scuffing and micropitting while staying thin enough to keep churning losses and running temperatures down in fast gearboxes.

The 210 litre drum is priced about 4 percent per litre below the 20 litre pack. Drums are delivered in Gauteng for R450 or collected free from Isando.

Where a 46 grade belongs

Choose the 46 when the gearbox maker specifies an ISO VG 46 CLP oil, which is common on high-speed spur and helical reducers, geared motors, machine tool headstocks and feed gearboxes, gear pumps and small enclosed drives on packaging, printing and textile machinery. It also suits circulating systems that feed gears and plain bearings from one tank, where a heavier oil would starve the bearings at start-up. If the unit runs hot, slow and heavily loaded, step up to Industrial Gear Oil 68 or 100 instead.
