Manual Transmission

Greyhound Lubricants supplies manual transmission oil for synchromesh gearboxes, transfer cases, differentials and final drives in cars, bakkies, trucks and off-highway equipment.

Two things decide the correct manual transmission oil: the API service category and the SAE viscosity grade. GL-4 oils carry a moderate extreme-pressure additive level and are specified for most synchromesh gearboxes, where excessive EP chemistry can corrode brass and bronze synchroniser rings. GL-5 oils carry a higher additive treat and are intended for hypoid differentials operating under shock load. Common grades include 75W-90 and 75W-140 full synthetics for extended drain and cold-start performance, and 80W-90 and 85W-140 mineral grades for conventional and heavy-duty axles. Limited-slip differentials need a fluid with the correct friction modifier.
