Semi-Synthetic
Semi-synthetic engine oil blends synthetic and mineral base stocks to sit between conventional mineral oils and full synthetics on both performance and price.
It is a practical choice for higher-mileage petrol and diesel engines, light commercial fleets and vehicles running in demanding local conditions where a full synthetic is not specified. The synthetic component improves oxidation stability and cold-start flow compared with a straight mineral oil, while the detergent and dispersant additives keep pistons clean and hold soot in suspension. Common grades are 10W-40 for petrol and light diesel, and 15W-40 for heavier diesel duty.
Semi-synthetic engine oil should still be matched to the API or ACEA service level in the vehicle handbook, and drain intervals kept to the manufacturer schedule. Packs run from 1L up to 210L drums.
