4 Stroke Engine Oil

4 stroke engine oil is used in motorcycles, quad bikes, lawnmowers, generators, pumps and small air-cooled engines where the oil circulates in a sump rather than being burned with the fuel.

Motorcycles need particular attention. Most bikes share one oil between the engine, gearbox and wet clutch, so the oil has to lubricate the engine, survive gear tooth loading and still give the clutch enough friction to grip without slipping. That is what the JASO MA and MA2 ratings cover, and it is why a fuel-economy car oil with friction modifiers can cause clutch slip in a motorcycle. Air-cooled engines also run hotter than car engines, so thermal stability matters more.

For garden and standby equipment, check the grade in the manual and change oil on hours run rather than by season. Available in 1L, 5L and 20L packs.
