Fully Synthetic

Fully synthetic engine oil is built on synthesised base stocks rather than refined mineral oil, which gives it a naturally high viscosity index, better cold-start flow and far greater resistance to oxidation and thermal breakdown.

For modern engines with turbochargers, direct injection, variable valve timing and after-treatment systems, a fully synthetic engine oil is usually what the manufacturer specifies. Low viscosity grades such as 0W-20 and 5W-30 reduce internal drag and support fuel economy targets, while 5W-40 remains the workhorse for higher-output petrol and diesel engines. Vehicles fitted with diesel particulate filters need low-SAPS formulations to avoid ash loading the filter. Long-drain intervals are only safe when the oil carries the relevant OEM approval.
